Exuma Bahamas Hot Spots February Point

Meet the Locals

While on Great Exuma, be sure to check out the local hot spots, including George Town, Bahamas, Peace and Plenty’s sandbar, and the Chat ‘n’ Chill. Mingle with the locals and make the most of your trip.

George Town

The capital of the Exumas is George Town. If you need to stock up on supplies, this is the place to go, as it has more stores and services than any other spot in the Exumas. George Town has a colorful history. Pirates used its deepwater harbor during the 17th century and the plantation aristocracy from Virginia and the Carolinas settled here in the 18th century. Elizabeth Harbour became a base for British vessels and the U.S. Navy used the port during World War II. There are two major yachting events here that attract visitors from all over the world, the Annual Family Island Regatta in Elizabeth Town and the Annual George Town Sailing Regatta held every March.
